With a last year raise of the trading at Shanghai Diamond exchange of 16.4% and total of 1.5 billion dollars China took the second place from Japan as the second biggest diamond market in the world. With the high 8.7% growth of the economy, diamond jewelery demand continued to grow. Until 2008, Japan was the second biggest market for diamonds and diamond jewelery, but China growing middle class is a huge potential market for diamonds and diamond jewelery. Although China diamond market is new (from mid 90's) the potential is great and all serious diamond traders are turning their eyes in this direction. The growing high and middle class in China is deeply influenced by the western style of living and their shopping and consumer habits are becoming similar to the consumer habits of their western counterparts.
