Rubies are considered as a precious stones, just like diamonds, emeralds and sapphires.

Rubies are pink or red gemstones or many variates between this two colors. The name ruby, comes from the Latin word for red. Rubies are red because there are presence of chromium. Rubies are variety of aluminum oxide or corundum. The price of rubies are mainly determined by color and then clarity, cut and carat size.

The most precious rubies are red or pigeon blood-red rubies. The biggest source of this first class premium pigeon's blood rubies is Burma, where most of the rubies are blood rubies. Burmese rubies and other game stones are banned by USA and EU, because the mining operations are in the hands of the brutal Burmese junta. Worker conditions in the Burmese rubies and game stones mines are shockingly bad. Child labor is common and also a diseases like AIDS.
